A doula is a trained professional who provides compassionate support during major life transitions, including childbirth, aging, and end of life.

Doulas may be medical or non-medical professionals and provide physical, emotional, mental, spiritual, and informational support to individuals and families.

For non-licensed holistic practitioners, we help you get licensed or set up your own consulting practice — and we show you exactly where the opportunities are.

Who's Behind This

Hi, I'm Yvonne Miller-Secreto.

Registered Nurse, CEO, hospice professional and founder of The Doula Galaxy.

I have 40 years of nursing experience that includes 16 years in hospice. I started in newborn nursery and ended up in hospice and in between I watched something that broke my heart.

The most gifted caregivers I had ever seen were leaving the field. Burned out. Underpaid. Invisible. Family caregivers were expected to give everything for free. Professional caregivers like me were expected to give everything for almost nothing.

And then the pandemic hit and we lost even more of them.

But those of us who stayed discovered something unexpected. A renewed passion. A second calling. And a burning question:

What if we could bring those healers back, give them purposeful training and actually show them how to earn a living doing this sacred work?

That's why I built The Doula Galaxy.

We don't just certify you. We walk with you through training, through your practicum and straight into placement with hospice agencies and families who need exactly what you have to offer.

What does “placement” actually mean?+

After you complete your certification, we connect you directly with hospice agencies and partner families who are actively looking for Death Doulas.

What’s the difference between a Wellness Doula and a Death Doula?+

A Death Doula focuses specifically on end-of-life care, that’s the program featured on this page. A Wellness Doula trains across a broader range of paths, including natural complementary health, birth and postpartum care, parenting and elder care. Both are grounded in Reiki certification and every Doula Galaxy graduate can pursue either.

How long does certification and placement take?+

Certification takes 60 days. You’ll have 60 days of access to the video lessons and workbook, allowing you to work at your own pace. Most students dedicate three to five hours each week.

The cohort meets for two live training weekends during that period, and both weekends are required. Ask us about the next cohort’s start date and live weekend schedule. Placement follows within 30 days of completing the program.

Can I do this while working my current job?+

Yes. The program is designed to fit around your life and current schedule. Placement opportunities may be per diem, part time or full time.

I have cost concerns.+

Payments can be made in 1, 3 or 12 month intervals.
